Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey Association (VWYHA) and the Madison Mavericks are committed to providing opportunities for girls to play hockey and prepare them to compete for their high school team. The new, second rink at Verona Ice Arena, and the increasing number of girls playing hockey, will allow us to create new teams and host events geared toward girls.
We offer a variety of girls programming so all girls have a choice in their hockey experience. We currently offer U6 and U8 all girls teams, as well as a supplemental U8, U10, and U12 all girls program called the Jr. Lynx Program. Additionally, we offer a full time U14 girls' team, called the Madison Mavericks.
Our association is dedicated to growing girls' hockey at all levels, with the goal of offering a girls' team at every age level. To show our commitment to growing the game of hockey for girls, we are excited to offer any new Verona Learn to Play, Verona U6 (2019-2020) or U8 (2017-2018) girl skater the opportunity to play her first season for free in Verona. She must play on an all-girls U6 or U8 team, provided an all-girls team is available at her skill level. If an all-girls team is not available at her assessed level at U8, she will be placed on a coed team and still qualifies for her first year free!

WHAT IS THE JR. LYNX PROGRAM?
All U8, U10, and U12 girls will also be eligible for and encouraged to participate in the Junior Lynx Program at a greatly reduced cost and commitment level. This program will be supplemental to the primary coed or all-girls team, with an objective to bring future high school teammates together with an emphasis on recreational play and socialization. There will be no “like-skill” component to this team, no games or scrimmages, no State Tournament, and responsibility for development will remain with the coed teams.
Girls in Verona as well as any nearby association will be eligible for this program. We especially welcome future Lynx high school players: those girls will eventually attend Verona Area, Madison West, Madison Memorial, Middleton, Edgewood, Mount Horeb, and Dodgeville High Schools.

WHO ARE THE MADISON MAVERICKS?
The Mavericks is an all-girls program that is housed under the Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey Association. The purpose of this program is to provide opportunities for girls looking for a like-skilled, all-girls hockey experience. The long-term goal of the Mavericks program is to grow the game of girls' hockey across the Greater Madison area. What does “like-skilled” mean? In short, it means grouping skaters together according to their skills and abilities. Just as the coed teams evaluate and place skaters on A, B, and C teams, we aim to similarly create like-skilled teams so that everyone will have a more satisfying, competitive experience. We want to challenge every skater without frustrating them, and we want everyone to achieve as much as possible in every season. New and experienced skaters alike should find an environment to develop and compete according to their skill level.
