WAHA Residency Rules

WAHA has added a Residency Rule for starting the 2019-2020 season.  The rule reads that if someone from one association questions the residency of a player from another association, the parent or legal guardian of the player in question will need to produce proof of residency.

The Wisconsin Amateur Youth Hockey Association (WAHA), the governing body of youth hockey in Wisconsin, sets boundaries for all of it's member associations.  WAHA rules state that no player may play for any association other than the association certified by WAHA to serve the area in which the player resides on a permanent basis.  Conversely, no association may accept any player from any area served by another association, whose boundaries are certified by WAHA.

Our association borders several other associations and the boundaries in the Greater Madison Area that WAHA has certified generally follow school district lines. For example, skaters residing in the Verona School District are required to play for Verona Youth Hockey, skaters residing in the Madison School district are required to play for either Madison Polar Caps (west side) or Madison Patriots (east side) and skaters in the Dodgeville & Mt. Horeb School districts are required to play for the Dodgeville Youth Hockey.  There are a few exceptions to this rule and transfers can be requested.   These rules are outlined in the WAHA Guidebook on page 46.  Here is a link to the Guidebook:   https://scripts.wahahockey.com/scripts/WAHABook/2018/2018%20WAHA%20Guidebook.pdf
